Canada Farming Tour
& Alaska Cruise

32-Day Canada Farming Tour & Alaska Cruise
Departs: 25th June; Returns 26th July 2021. Tour Cost from $15,800
Tour leader: Graham Engeman Gympie Qld

Itinerary: Flying Air Canada with coach travel throughout the Canadian Provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia with an 8-Day Holland America Line Cruise of Alaska. Manitoba was once the home of the world-renowned Canadian Wheat Board based in Winnipeg before it was abolished in 2012. This is a must-visit province with agricultural research stations, grain elevators, Mennonite farms, sheep and cattle farms, seed cleaning plants, honey bee farms, trout farming, tree planting and strawberry farms. Saskatchewan is another Prairie province with wheat and grain farms, beef and dairy farms, cash crops and vegetable farms. Alberta is one of Canada’s most beautiful and scenic provinces with horse and cattle ranches, buffalo and elk farms, dairy and grain farms and hatrurite farms. British Columbia has a diverse climate due to its close proximity to the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The province is best known for fruit orchards, grape vineyards, dairy and beef farms, hog, poultry and duck farms, horticulture, bison ranches, vegetable, herb and natural food farms and honey and ginseng farms. The Okanogan Valley is known as the Canadian Fruit Belt whereas the intensely farmed Fraser Valley brings in over half of British Columbia’s annual agricultural revenue.

Canada Highlights: The 21 night farming tour of Canada kicks off in Edmonton and then visits Saskatoon, Russell, Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Swift Current, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Calgary, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise, Three Valley Gap, Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria Island to visit the famous Butchart Gardens. As with all Australian Farmers Tours you will get off the tourist track visiting, sheep, beef, dairying horticultural, grain and cropping properties as well as attending the Calgary Stampede known as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” featuring one of the world’s largest rodeos, parades, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions and chuckwagon racing.  Apart from all these valuable on-farm and technical visits the tour has been designed as a business trip, which may qualify as a tax-deductible expense. To this end your tour leader Graham Engeman will maintain a detailed daily diary of Canadian visits for you to submit with your income tax return. However, it is not all work and no play as the tour also includes leisure and sightseeing to provide a well-rounded itinerary. Crossing the Rocky Mountains seeing Banff, Lake Louise, the majestic Victoria Glacier, the massive Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier are just some of the many highlights of this tour of Canada.

Alaska Cruise Highlights: The 7 night Holland America Line cruise of Alaska departing 17th July from Vancouver onboard MS Koningsdam features the Inside Passage with the opportunity of seeing humpback whales, orca, bald eagles and brown bears; magnificent Tracy Arm Fjord; Juneau - Alaska’s capital; Skagway- home of the gold rush-era; Glacier Bay - with amazing scenery and wilderness and Ketchikan known for its many Native American totem poles and nearby Misty Fjords a glacier-carved wilderness featuring snowcapped mountains, waterfalls and salmon spawning streams. It’s also home to rich wildlife including black bears, wolves and bald eagles. Return via the scenic Inside Passage to Vancouver.

Tour Leader: Graham Engeman has had a diverse background with school teaching, policing, real estate, auctioneering and local government. Graham is President of the well regarded Gympie District Show Society and at one time was Landmark’s Gympie Livestock Manager. He now runs a Brangus Stud, near Gympie with genetics from the USA and Australia. The Engeman family also operate Cattle Breeding Services supplying liquid nitrogen, semen and breeding program services for the Wide Bay and Burnett regions of Queensland. In 2014 Graham led the highly successful China and Inner Mongolia Farming Tour and in 2017 the 22-Day Australian Farmers Japan Tour.

Tour Cost: As the tour is not until 2021 the estimated cost of this remarkable 32-day tour flying economy class with Air Canada from Sydney and Brisbane is $15,800 and from Melbourne is $15,915 sharing a twin room with private facilities in mostly 3 star hotels and an ocean-view cruise cabin, all breakfasts, 15 lunches and 16 dinners with spectacular sightseeing, on-farm and technical visits. The cost also includes, carrier imposed charges, airport taxes and fees. An additional supplement from $400 per person upwards would apply should you wish to upgrade your ocean-view cabin to a Veranda Stateroom, however, on the other hand should you be happy with an interior cabin (no window) then the tour cost would be reduced by about $1000 per person. The single room/cabin supplement is $5,430. Those tour members who have previously travelled with Australian Farmers Travel well know just how quickly their tours fill.
