Farming Tour of France,
the Channel Islands & England

32 Day Farming Tour of France, the Channel Islands & England
Departs: 5th September ; Returns 6th October 2021. Tour Cost $15,600
Australian Tour leaders: Don & Kerrie Howard, Ocean Grove Vic
European Tour Manager & Guide: Jeremy Kolbe resident in France
Channel Islands & England Tour Manager & Guide: Michael Barker resident in UK

Itinerary: Flying Singapore Airlines to Paris and travelling by coach in Northern France to Normandy then Rennes and Saint-Malo in Brittany and on to the Channel Islands for an in-depth 6 day tour visiting the islands of Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. In England the tour covers Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and the Cotswolds. At the conclusion of the tour in London, tour members if they wish may stay on and depart later from any city in England or Europe serviced by Singapore Airlines for no additional cost subject of course to the availability of seats.

Highlights: As with all Australian Farmers Tours you will get off the tourist track visiting sheep, cattle - beef and dairy, horticultural and cropping properties. The tour has been designed as a business trip and as such the cost may well qualify as a tax deductible expense. To this end your Tour Leader, Don Howard will maintain a detailed daily diary for you to submit with your income tax return. However, it is not all work and no play as the tour includes leisure and sightseeing to provide a well-rounded itinerary visiting the battlefields of both World Wars featuring The Somme and the Normandy Landings as well as exploring Nazi Germany’s underground tunnels, underground hospital and historic fortifications in the Channel Islands. The English tour includes many areas of outstanding natural beauty plus much, much more.

Tour Leaders, Managers and Guides: Tour managers and guides Jeremy Kolbe, resident in France, and Englishman Michael Barker are both well known to hundreds of Australian farmers as for many years they have been managing and guiding Australian Farmers Travel overseas tours whereas Don Howard has had quite a diverse background in farming for the past 40 years. He recently sold his dairy farm and leased the beef farm and now lives in Ocean Grove Vic. Don started a Travel Tower Contracting business and ran that for 16 years in conjunction with both farms. In his early 40’s he was elected to the Murray Goulburn Co-op Board of Directors where he spent 16 years. Don together with his wife Kerrie have previously enjoyed three tours with Australian Farmers Travel to China & Inner Mongolia, Spain, Morocco and Portugal, a Central European Farming Tour and in 2019 Don and Kerrie led the highly successful Balkan Peninsula Farming Tour of Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovenia.

Tour Cost: As the tour is not until 2021 the indicative cost of this 32-day farming tour flying economy class with Singapore Airlines from either Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth is $15,600 based on sharing a twin room with private facilities in mostly 3 to 4 star hotels, all breakfasts, 12 lunches and 13 dinners with spectacular sightseeing, on-farm and technical visits. The indicative cost also includes porterage, all tipping, carrier charges, airport taxes and fees. The single room supplement is $4,500.

About Us: Australian Farmers Travel, registered in Victoria and owned and operated by Andrew Curry is Australia’s leading agricultural tour operator. It commenced in 1973 as a service to primary producers and shareholders of the then major rural co-operatives Victorian Producers’ (now Elders), Westralian Farmers (Landmark), Primaries (Elders), Gippsland and Northern, Bennetts Farmers and Farmers & Graziers. Our tours offer more than just travel as each tour is uniquely planned to provide something special, a careful blend of agricultural and horticultural visits, sightseeing and free time. Our world wide program of tours offers you the chance to see how farming is practised in every sort of climate and condition. In addition, all our tours provide a sense of fellowship and the chance to meet other farm families from all over Australia. Friendships formed on an Australian Farmers Tour often last a lifetime. We value the loyalty of our past tour members and appreciate the fact that many of them continue to book with us year after year. We feel this is a mark of the quality of our tours and tour leaders and we will continue to strive to attain the high standards that we set ourselves.
